Extreme strategies of protective parts: a clinical conversation with Matthias Hartmann

We invite you to explore the therapeutic process from the perspective of a protector part: to hear its voice, better understand the logic behind its protective strategy, and discover what may lie beneath its resistance to unblending, taking a break, or trusting the Self.

Together, we will explore:

  • the protective strategies that manager parts using extreme strategies may employ;

  • what may underlie their resistance and mistrust;

  • how therapists can build safe, collaborative relationships with these manager parts;

  • what may make it difficult to establish contact and work with a manager part;

  • how therapists can remain connected to Self-energy when a client’s part takes a very strong position;

  • how to create conditions for the gradual softening of extreme strategies without pressure or struggle.
